Academic Programs

The academic programs at CGI encompass a vast span of scientific frontiers. The intertwining of scientific discipline has brought together the basic principles (chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, and computer programming) as well as generated new ways to investigate new problems that no scientists in the past ever imagined. The line between biology and chemistry in particular is disappearing by seconds while new knowledge and new fields of study are emerging incessantly.

At CGI, the graduate study programs are divided into three main areas:

(Add Photo) Applied Biological Sciences (ABS) : Environmental Health

(Add Photo) Chemical Science (CS)

(Add Photo) Environmental Toxicology (ET)

The courses are designed and taught by researchers from the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI), faculty from CGI, and several other world-renowned universities and institutions, spearheaded by a group of faculty from MIT, as well as others from Aarhus University, Edinburgh Centre for Toxicology, Harvard University, Imperial College, Johns Hopkins University, Michigan State University, New York University, University of Florida, University of Guelph, University of Ottawa, and Utrecht University. These three programs are designed to teach students to identify research problems, guiding principles in solving these problems, and conducting experiments to provide the solutions to the problems. The interdisciplinary nature of all three programs also enables students to learn and to see the interwoven links between human health and the chemical and biological agents that cause diseases in humans, while equipping them with basic knowledge of related fields. The understanding of these diseases in the many aspects that the students gain in solving these problems will benefit us not only with effective treatments, but also preventative measures against these diseases. In the process, the students will be instilled with necessary skills for their future scientific careers.
